Abstract

Presidential elections are a democratic mechanism by which the president of the state is elected. Through this mechanism, people entrust the implementation of the political power of the representative body, which then represents its sovereign will. The electorate allows the transfer of citizens' sovereignty over democratically elected representatives. During the presidential election, the focus is on analyzing how free and fair elections are. We are witnesses of many electoral incidents in the country during elections, as well as irregularities in election results, hate speech, insults and the like. In my research I will focus on the notion and meaning of hate speech, hate speech by presidential candidates, comparative analysis of the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections, the political context of the presidential elections, the analysis of the Albanian political bloc as well as analysis of the hate speech during the presidential election. The main research question in this paper is how and to what extent hate speech in the regular presidential campaign took place in April and May 2019. In the research we start from the basic hypothesis that in Macedonia, despite the increased political culture and the higher level of democracy in the state election campaigns, political parties can still find a hate speech that is less intense than the initial period of political pluralism.
