TEACHER COMPETENCIES FOR THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY
Abstract
Everyday changes in all spheres of society have as a product changes in the upbringing and education of teachers themselves. Modern information and communication technologies
are not only sources for learning and not only provide new means but also change the way of acquiring knowledge and knowledge in general. The challenge in every knowledge society is the challenge in every society. Education systems are facing the changes that are taking place and are constantly adapting. Some new forms of teacher competence and his professional
development depend on the person himself, his competence, cooperation with the family, sufficient knowledge of the curriculum, cooperative relationship with students and society in
general. A competent teacher should teach students to know how to learn and to be able to live in a society that is constantly changing in all spheres. The fact is that in the new chang-
es, the teacher must adapt, change his approaches, attitudes, constantly supplementing his knowledge and show it in practice. Seemingly, we can say that this is a very complex task of
teachers, but if it is educated at universities where teaching is conducted according to the Bologna principles, which monitor technological and communication development, we believe
that the teacher is adequately trained for his vocation and that these complex requirements and very important can be performed by a competent and professional teacher. In this paper,
we will deal with the facts that occur in the teaching process regarding the competencies of teachers and their willingness to get involved and contribute to the educational process for the
knowledge society.
