The Fight Against Malaria in Macedonia During the Two World Wars

For millennia, especially along the Vardar, Struma, and Crna Reka rivers, malaria has been a problem in Macedonia. Fighting infectious malaria, which took thousands of lives each year and caused suffering in millions more, was neither straightforward nor easy. For Macedonia, the introduction of organized medical care using cutting edge scientific theories to avoid infectious diseases like malaria was truly a privilege. Dr. Andria Shtampar and his standing in the world medical community played a pivotal part in all of this effort, providing enormous funding for the building of facilities and the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment to fight infectious diseases. The history of medicine has not yet taken notice of this rapid advancements in preventative medicine and the construction of healthcare facilities. In just 5 years, the entire territory of Macedonia was covered by a health network, and medical practices that until then were completely unknown. The principles and scientific concepts of social medicine, whose creator was Shtampar himself, led to a sharp increase of the standards in the fight against a number of infectious diseases that were until then considered inconclusive.

The Activity of the “Sokol” Society in Shtip between the Two World Wars

The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the great merits and achievements, as well as the affirmation of the Sokol Society with all its features and registered successes, which left a lasting mark on the spread of sport life in the period between the two World Wars. In addition to sport activities, they set the tone on the development of the cultural and educational life in the city. Special emphasis is given to the participation of the Sokol gymnasts at the Tenth Gymnastic Festival held in 1939 in Prague (Czechoslovakia), and above all to the unforgettable impressions and hospitality they encountered.

Овој труд во својата содржина накратко ја опфаќа целокупната историјата на Македонската православна црква – Охридска архиепископија (МПЦ-ОА), нагласувајќи го фактот дека таа не е нова црква, туку дека таа е легитимна наследничка и продолжителка на Охридската архиепископија, која по долгата и непрекината борба на македонскиот православен народ по цели 200 години од нејзиното укинување, во 1967 година беше возобновена во лицето на Македонската православна црква. Во трудот е нагласена и нераскинливата поврзаност на Охридската архиепископија со традициите на постарата црковна организација на македонските простори – Јустинијана Прима, а исто така значаен дел завзема и поновата современа историја на МПЦ-ОА.

The Educational Institutions in Vardar Macedonia between the Two World Wars

The article aims to show the different degrees of education in Vardar Macedonia within the Kingdom of SHS/Yugoslavia. The high percentage of illiteracy in this part of the Kingdom has been a challenge for the authorities in organizing the education system where assimilation policies will be implemented, and future generations raised in the Serbian spirit and Serbian culture will be built. An overview of the different types of school institutions and the problems they faced were given.
