Abstract

On the rocky hill Mal Surun (Eagle’s stone) close to the village Dupjachani in the Prilep region there are a lot of cuts and hollows into the rocks. A part of these is connected with some cult activities in the past.

One rock has carves - representations of male and female symbols, which indicate of its usage in the ritual processions connected with the cult of fertility in eneolithic, Bronze Age and late Macedonian period. Another rock is striking because of the way it was processed with one part in the form of a saddle - "throne", and a system of cult holes. Probably a cleric or an elder of the community in distant past, sitting on the “throne”, communicated with Gods and led the ritual procession. Ceremonial liquids were poured into the holes.

Similar ancient rocky sacred complexes existed in the neighboring regions, which points to an equal level of developed consciousness in understanding the spiritual in the same time, starting from the late Eneolith, through the next prehistoric periods until the Roman period.
