CHRONOLOGICAL DETERMINATION OF THE BEGINNINGS OF THE LATE NEOLITHIC IN EASTERN MACEDONIA

Abstract

Beginning of the Late Neolithic Age on the Balkan Peninsula is a result of great ethno-cultural changes. Researches on various sites from the Late Neolithic Age from the Balkan so far show quite precise dating referring to this problematics. This, above all, refers to the sites in the neighbouring countries, Serbia and Bulgaria, territories naturally connected to the eastern part of Macedonia. Unfortunately, from the sites in Macedonia, precise chronological dating for the Late Neolithic Age is determined in the Barutnica site only, near the village of Anzabegovo. Other sites from the Late Neolithic Age mainly are determined by a relative chronology, i.e. by a comparison of the movable archeologic material from the neighbouring cultures and sites. In this paper I am going to try to come up with more accurate chronological data on the beginning of the Late Neolithic Age on this territory by making comparisons with the neighbouring sites and cultural groups not related with the sites on our territory in any manner. Hereupon, there will be several assumptions about the reasons that led to change of the material culture and the transition from middle to Late Neolithic Age.
