SOCIAL PROTECTION OF EMPLOYED WOMEN DURING PREGNANCY AND MATERNITY LEAVE

Abstract

This paper provides overview of the organization of maternity cash benefits and maternity care according to ILO Conventions, European Union law and in the Republic of North Macedonia. It focuses specifically on income security for women before and after childbirth.

Further in the paper, it is explained about the differences between the rights of pregnancy and the rights of maternity / parental leave that are separately regulated and for which the payment of monetary allowances is entrusted to different institutions.

The right to salary compensation during absence from work due to pregnancy, birth and maternity are insured under the conditions stipulated in the law on labor and the legislation on health insurance or social protection. Hence, an analysis of the organization of maternity benefits according to these laws is given. The main instrument in the analysis of in the labor is the critical review of the current legislation that refers to this type of social security benefits and payments.
