THE IMAGE OF ITALY IN LJUBOMIR NENADOVIĆ’S LETTERS FROM ITALY
Abstract
The paper focuses on the image of Italy in Ljubomir Nenadović’s Pisma iz Italije (Letters from Italy, 1868), which is based on his travel in 1851 and his visits to cities such as Naples, Rome and Florence. The book had a great influence on travel writing in the Serbian tradition, especially in its dealing with Naples, one of the privileged destinations of the Italian itineraries of the Serbs. On this occasion we will also deal with the similitudes between Nenadović’s work and the European travel writing tradition and offer the basis for further discussion on the subject.
