Abstract

This study investigates the perceptions of high school EFL teachers in the Republic of North Macedonia regarding the role of linguistics in teaching spoken English. Employing an educational-linguistic framework, the study focuses on elucidating teachers' beliefs concerning the nexus between linguistics and the instruction of spoken English as a foreign language. Utilizing a quantitative approach, data were gathered through a questionnaire. The findings underscore a significant connection between linguistics and the teaching of speaking skills in English as a foreign language. Notably, teachers recognize the pivotal importance of grammar and vocabulary in the teaching of speaking skills. The study discusses the implications of these findings for English language teaching.
