Abstract

This paper focuses on the poetry of Giorgio Bassani, who is traditionally better known for his narrative writing. The paper aims to highlight how poetry represents a key element in the whole author’s production, a sort of personal mission to always remain faithful to, in writing as in life. For Bassani poetry represents, through his whole career a place of freedom, strictly connected to a spatial matter, as if the words, in the emptier page of verses compared to that of prose, could find a more authentic space of expression, no longer constrained within the oppressive boundaries of paragraphs. Starting from this point of view, the article aims to investigate the importance of the spatial dimension in the poetry of Giorgio Bassani, where space is not only a stylistic matter, but one of the crucial cores of his whole writing.
