Abstract

This paper concerns the most common lexical errors made in written and oral Italian translations by Macedonian learners of Italian as a second language (L2) attending the final two years of the four-year degree program in Italian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philology of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje. The corpus of our investigation, which began at the beginning of the pandemic, consists of the written and oral language produced by learners in switching from L1 into L2 during lessons in Translation Practice and Simultaneous Interpreting from Macedonian into Italian. Our study aims to identify the lexical deviations these subjects encountered most frequently in their codification in the target language and to identify the internal or external reasons that generated them, starting from the assumption that the mother tongue played a fundamental role in causing the greatest number of difficulties and therefore errors committed by learners in the target language.
