PARONYMS IN THE MENTAL LEXICON
Abstract
The vocabulary of the modern Macedonian language includes different types of words that are classified according to certain criteria. Some words have the same form of writing, but their semantics are different, while others have different forms but the same semantics. Some words are opposed in meaning, etc., but all contribute to the richness of our language. Some of these words are commonly used by speakers in everyday communication, while others are less frequently used and only become apparent when needed in specific situations. This distinction reflects the active and passive vocabulary that forms part of an individual’s lexicon. This paper explores the concept of the mental lexicon, the difference between the mental and general lexicon, and the notion of a paronymic nest.
